2019 Leadership and Volunteer Opportunities
Take a leadership role in the Chamber by volunteering on a council, committee or planning group. Help direct the Chamber’s activities to contribute to your success and that of other member-businesses. Serving as a volunteer offers unique opportunities to:
- Play a significant role in shaping and strengthening the Chamber and its policies, programs, and services;
- Establish important business contacts
- Gain valuable leadership experience
- Learn about the Evanston community and
- Best of all, have fun and enjoy working side-by-side with Evanston business colleagues
Welcome new and contact prospective members of the Chamber. Introduce new members at Chamber events and guide them through the initial networking stage. Serve as a resource to familiarize them with Chamber programs, services, and other benefits. Work with staff to help Chamber membership grow. Act as a sounding board to staff in the development of membership materials and campaigns.
Advocacy and Government Affairs Council
Researches, monitors and analyzes key public and business policy issues and legislation. Reports findings to the Chamber’s Board of Directors. As needed, proposes strategies for representing the interests of Chamber members and improving Evanston’s economic business climate. Serve as a resource to staff on the development of appropriate communications to members.
Seek opportunities to build visibility of Evanston restaurants beyond city boundaries. Lead Evanston Restaurant Week initiative. Identify opportunities to support local restaurant members with specialized services/programs. Assist staff in securing support from local restaurant members for events and meetings.
Marketing Programming Committee
Identify topics and speakers for Marketing (educational) Series. Assist in creation of new Evanston Chamber blog and drafting & recommending blog policy to Board. Help formalize new marketing campaigns and initiatives designed to grow business in Evanston, including supporting the program efforts of other committees.
Evanston Entrepreneurial Growth & Profit Group (GNP)
formerly SOHO Small Office Home Office
Focus on the issues, challenges, and concerns of small-office home-office businesses. Advise staff on appropriate topics/programming for monthly networking meetings. Help schedule full calendar year, coordinate logistics and host meetings.
Evanston Women in Business (EWIB) Network Group
Focus on career and human resource challenges facing women owners and managers in the workplace. Advise staff on appropriate topics/programming for monthly networking meetings. Help schedule full calendar year, coordinate logistics and host meetings. Assist with oversight of Facebook Group.
Rising Professionals Network Group
Get connected and help build more connections with other young talented professionals who are the future of the Evanston business community. Engage young talent by inspiring growth of professional networks through the Chamber. Propose relevant programming and help coordinate meetings.
Evanston Chamber Fountain Square Artisan SummerFest Planning Group
Assist Chamber staff in planning, designing and staffing a major Chamber-sponsored art festival in Evanston. Secure support of and coordinate artists, retailers and food vendors to create a spectacular weekend. Seek and recommend opportunities to generate increased revenue to support Chamber programs and services.
Golf Outing Planning Group
Whether you are a duffer or a Nicklaus, you’ll have fun coordinating the Chamber’s annual outing—another great networking opportunity. Secure support of sponsors and promote participation. Seek and recommend opportunities to generate increased revenue to support Chamber programs and services.
